FOREIGN, LOAN ARRANGED. The semi-annual report and account of the Kanegatachi Spinning Company, adopted at the half yearly general meeting held on the 14th Instant at the Tokyo Bankers' Club, shows that the net profit for the paried amounted to V,126,6:6, including a surplus of 1750,402
dividend at the rate of 16 per cent, per annum, bought over from the preceding period. Of this sum, X628,310 was appropriated for a V100,000 was added to the reserves, Y50,000 paid as bonuses to officials, and V748,536 carried forwards
During the proceedings some disturbance was created by Mr. Fukuzawa Momosuke, a recently registered holder of 206 shares. Mr Muto, macaging director, remarked that the opinion just advanced by Mr. Fokozawa might not be out of place in a newspaper, but when advanced by a shareholder at a‹general; meeting of a company, it amounted to ex pressing want of confidence in the board of directors. If he did not have confidence. in these gentlemen, he should say so distinct... ly. If, however, the meeting placed conf dence in them it would approve the report and accounts placed before it. Objection had been raised to the provisions made by the company for the treatment of operatives, which were considered excessive. But generous treatment served to prevent operatives from teaving their employ to obtain better wagas elsewhere, and, (as things stood, the arrangement was to the
advantage of the company.
Mr. Fukuzawa having nothing more to say, the auditors then announced that the accounts were correct, and these with the report were accordingly approved.
