Very few quiside this district have any notion, Or can restipe: what a, virulent outbreak of Salgon 15th: May; Rica Man Fat & Dalia, Both: May; 11 A.MA chplerin devastating the coal fields from Assawol to berria. Only those who are obliged to travel across country over fields and mullahs, from colliery to colliery, are able to gauge the force and extent of the epidemic. One by one collieries are shutting down for want of fabour, as the miners fly from the scourge. At one place By deaths in three days. are reported. House servants have succumbed.

The oldest resident has not known a severer. outbreak or one more general than this. Dead

bodies are lying in dry pullahs and fields, left to be devoured by vultures and dogs. The scene in some places beggars description and resembles nothing so nearly as a battle field after a deadly engagement, and to certain tracts the air in offensive to breathe. Grassome details unfit for publication are to hand, relat ing to the miner in which the dying are de serted by their panic stricken people. The police seem wholly inadequate to cope with thess conditions.

Through it all a word of praise might ba given to those sahibsiu command on collieries, ‹and in positions of trust in the district, who are sticking manfully to their-posts-in spite of such grave and nerve-trying troubles, fulfilling their duties and endeavouring, to encourage the flagging and faint-hearted.

There are no signs of rain visible. A ̃baking: sun, a high-temperature and cloudless skier prevail.--Empira,
