with their more fortunate colleagues who patrol the streets of Victoria for six hours a day. We are led to understand that an order has now been introduced withdrawing these well-earned increments of salary from the officers who are stationed at the forbidding outposts of "the Colony, and that, henceforth, these duties will have to be performed without recompense in any shape or form. No one who has not visited some of the isolated and lonely police out. utations can ranfise what it means to those who have to live there week after wook without Jesing an individual of their own class, The officers bave to pairal wide districts which are sparsely populated but which, nevertheless, bave to be kept under supervision.
