The British Medical Journal points a gloomy picture of the future of young doctors,; In. = few years' time they will be seeking dyliving in vain. "Unless,they are fortified with private means, the chances of establishing" A' paying practice are becoming more and, more remote. There are too many doctors for the patients. There is too much competition for the work and the fees..
CHANGING METHODS. The medical profession is in a state of Iran- [330sition, Old rules no longer apply, and that is one of the reasons why old-fashioned, practis |tioners are so gloomy about the future. All these things tend to re- duce incomes and to make the struggle keener, Doctors with established practices, being hu-j man, naturally try to dissuade young men from entering the profession, and making the, com petition keeper still.
They make the picture too dismal.... New work for doctors is opening up on every hand, The Colonies are absorbing more and more doctors, and the new public health regulations, particularly as to the steady inspection of school, children, will fargely widen the scope of oc cupation. As the nation realises that national kashik means national wealth, the demand, for doctors will increase.
