Ignoring entirely the presence of his mother and his brothers and sisters, Henry Hunting- ton kneeled down by his father's bedside, took his hand, and with tears streaming down ble face, begged for forgiveness. The sick man was able to make a feeble, movement, and utter a few unintelligible words.

When the eldest son rose to his feet again,, Mrs. Huntington, who was also weeping, said: "Heery, you have repented towards your father, come and kiss me." room.

PLEADINGS THAT WERE VAIN. Douglas Huntington attempt to reason with his brother, but be only succeeded in making him more bitter. High words passed. Edith Huntington ran out of the bedroom to implore. her brothers to respect their dying father, but her pleadings were 'vain."

At last, when Mr. Huntington, and her sons and daughters were all gathered in the dining room, Henry suddenly drew his res volver, and in a paroxyam of passion began to shoot. Alonzo and Elisabeth Hunting. ton showed splendid courage. The former, who is a big, powerful man and a painter of merit, rushed at his brother and attempind to seize the revolver, Heary turned it against him, shooting him through the head and the region of the heart.

Douglas, who is a cripple, was the next victim. Only Elizabeth and Edith were left, Elizabeth; who leads the life of recluse," threw herself in front of Edith, a beautiful girl, who is extremely well known in society, Despite Elizabeth's heroism it was Edith who who was most dangerously wounded, the bullet piercing her breast.

The murderer expresses great contrition now,.. and says he intended to commit suicide. Alonzo and Edith, whose condition this morn ing was desperate, have rallied.
