Jacobs had reduced Ford's head to pulp, and had inflicted 17 wounds on his body..

With the knife still in his hand he 'attacked Batchelor, and there was a terrible' struggle. Batchelor, was wounded, and Jacobs escaped, making another vicious dig with his knife at Ford's prostrato body as he passed.

Medical and other assistance was obtained, but Ford died at six o'clock..

The country was scoured, and Jacobs was found hiding in a shed. He yielded readily to the police, but expressed great aversion to being handcuffed. On the way to the police. itation be conversed freely, declaring he was not afraid, and that he was "all-right"

BLABHING ABOUT ALL NIGHT." Upon being 'questioned, he said,' Devil of night. Killed the old man. Beep slashing

about all night,”

The police consequently went to the little house where lacobs lived with hi father, and there they came across the old mir body with the bead completely detached. There was blood all over the place, and every evid- nce of a terrible struggle having taken place.

The murder had been accomplished by means of a large meat cleaver, and was probably done some time before the attack upon Ford:

Jacobs clothes were quite free from blood, and the belief is that he went home after killing Ford and made a complete change.

His behaviour after being arrested was that of a'maniac. He declared that he had "lald out" to kill Ford's employer, an old man named Money.

He had also said to Batchelor, "George, you are just the man I wanted to see. i mean to do something, and this is the day i have to do it."

It is stated that Jacobs bas bien strange in his manner for some time.
