The eighteenth ordinary meeting of share holders, in the above Company, was held at the Company's offices, Victoria Buildings, at noon to day. Mr. T. F. Hough (chairman) prosided. There were present Messrs. W. H. Gaskell, A. Rodger, (directors), A. Shelton Hooper (secretary), R. A. Duator, E. B. She pherd, and M. S. Northcote,

The secretary read the notice convening the meeting. "

The chairman said:-Gentlemen,-With your permission we will take the report and Accounts as read. The balance of profit and loss account for the year under re• view is slightly higher than that" for 1905, which is accounted for by the smaller amount we have had to expend on repairs. The gross receipts show a decrease which has been brought about by the larger number of vacancies than formerly; this was naturally to be expected in view of the number of new houses erected at Kowloon, but your directors believe that the population of Kowloon will so increase as to make the demand for this class of house quite up to that of the last few years. The property is in good condition and has been recently done up. If any further information

The shipowners relied in the first place on another condition of the Bill of Lading.. “This Company is not to be responsible for damage, evaporation, cic, leakage or breakage, or other consequence arising from errors, obliterations, absence of marks, or from the insufficiency of the address, or packing, internal or external, or for the condition or contents of re shipped or re-exported goods." #

The evidence adduced by the police was very conclusive and to the point, but the defence, put up by the two coolies- that the deceased was alive when they took him out for a walk and that he died as soon as he saw the police was tame in the extreme. The deceased was twenty-one years of age and was the eldest son of the. third defendant-the farmer. I was necessary to see what this exception in the Bill of Lading really means. In the first place its grammatical construction does not warrant the linking of the word "damage', with the last sentence which refers to re-ship pel or re-exported goods; therefore he was unable to adop: the suggested construction that the exception protects the shipping company only from damage resulting from the fact of re-shipment of re-exportation. If damage resuks from this it seems probable, though bis Hon. our expressed no opinion on the point, that the liability would have to be determined by other principles.
