A visit to the City Hall this morning showed the decorations to be almost complete, and under the skillful direction of Mr. W. C. Jack and his assistant committee, the City Hall and theatre have become a series of fairy bowers
At the turn of the staircase and above the great mirror is fixed a gigantic and beautiful representation of the Scotch thistle in green and purple electric lamps, while on reaching the lobby, where the President and Committee will receive their visitors, one sees on every hand draped shields. of blue, hearing upon them the St. Andrew's cross and the thistle in

The defendants admitied entering into a contract with plaintiffs for the purchase of 500 bags of sugar, but denied that by the terms of that con- tract the sugar was to be ordered from Holland, They affirm that the sugar specified in the con. tract was"Austrian crystafs, B.R.B., and/or simi." lar crystals and marks," and might have been ordered by the plaintiffs from anywhere. The defendants negotiated for the purchase of the sugar through one Ming Kee, a salcıman in the employ of the plaintiffs, and they signed the agreement on the terms stated by them. They were unable to speak or read English,
At points of vaninge round this room, draped with international colours, hang shields bearing
the arms of such historic clans at the Macin- tyres, Murrays, Davidsons, Grants of Glen- moriston, Camerons of Lochiel, Grants, Mac- neils, Menzies, Macgillivrays Grahams, Robert sens, Mackenzies, Macdonalds, Fergusons, Macinnes and many other distinguished names, too long to detail here,

Murray Bain, Mr. D. Wood and Miss Hunter. in the centre of the gallery hangs a shield bearing the Lion Rampant of Scotland, while round the curve of the wall run the words, in large red characters, “Bonnie Scotland."
The steps leading up to the stage are covered in palms and beautiful foliage of all kinds, and all round the front and back of the gallery are parterres of the same variegated kind. .
The floor is in most, beautiful conditing for dancing, the champagne is. Paul Do umier, the hand-master of the 3rd Middlesex, has arranged the charmingly selected programme of dance usic given below, and since we all know from experience what splendidly untiring and assi duous hosts our good Scotch friends make, we prophesy for the lucky guests of to-night, the most enjoyable time that they have bad or will have during the year 1906. g
