The New York Elections. The Lieutenant-Governor, and all the State officials of New York are mocmis; and the Democrats have also won many seats in the State Senate Assembly, and in Congress.

The election is regarded as a personal defeat of Mr. Hearst, but a victory for his cause, and as bound to strengthen President Roosevelt's anti-trust campaign.
All the ten judges elected are nominees of the Tammany ring, which has obtained a fresh lease of life.

OFFICE.
TWO MEN WOUNDED.
Two baarmen, employed by the Harbour De- partment, were stabbed-one striously-by an unknown Chinamaan in the Harbour Office this moming. One of the boatmen is so seriously injured tat he is an expected to live.
Whether the man who ran abiok is mad or not we do not know as medical'evidence is not yet to hand, but it is believed that the cause of the stabbing was due to a grudge that existed between the Chinaman and a Portuguese employed in the department

About ten o'clock this morning, Mr. A. C. Botelho, a clerk, af the Babour foffice, was en- Raged in shipping 'a number of emigrants to ingapore. The emigrants, were in a room in the ground floor of the building, and the usual rauline work attacked in shipping emigrants was nearly over, when suddenly a Chinaman, who had not yet been examined, rushed from his place and seized Mr. Inte ho by the throat, at the same time drawing a large knife, which he had' concealed an his person.
"He must have slipped just then.” 'said no eye-witness to the affair, in relating the particus lars to a Hongkong Telegraph reporter, "for Mr. Botelho, who is no young man, pushed him off and the mahi fell, releasing his grip an Mr. Botelho's throat, '
Two Contmen, who were standing near by, spring on the infuriated Chinaman as he was getting up again to make for Mr. Botelho, and a scuffle followed, during which both boatmen
were stabbed, it was said, in the right breast. Finding that he had squelched the fighting
ardour of his two assailants and that Mr. Botella
FIRE IN HOLLYWOOD KOAD.
TWO PERSONS KILLED.
At about noon to-day a fire broke out on the first four of No. 35, Hollywood Road and did considerable damage. The first indication of n'fire was seen by two policeman on that bent, who gave an alarm by sounding their whistles, Sanitary lospector Fisher, who heard the noise, rushed out from the District Sanitary Office and seeing what was happening reported the matter to the inspector in charge at, the Central Police Station. By the time the brigade got on the scene a large crowd who were attracted by the dense smoke were on the spot, and the police had no end of trouble cloaring the mob from surging too near the burning building. The fire spread rapidly, Starting at house No. 35 the flames spread to the two adjoining buildings, Nos. 33 and 37 and gradually worked their way to the top of the houses. The ground floors of the three houses were used as shops, and the upper stories as dwelling houses, one of the flats being occupied by a llebrew inmily.
The firemen, in charge of Chief Inspector l'aker, did not wail long to get to work on their arrival for these was a plentiful supply of water, The Brefighters, with a strong pressure. among them several policemen, who were on their way back to their stations, made their way to the top of the building and with the aid of several lengths of hose, which were run up the fire escape, up the sinircase, and up to the roof, they then opened an attack on the dames. Canton, 9th November. Total Woo Kwok Kim, a resident of the Straits Settlements, has sent a despatch in ILE. Viceroy Shum, in which he states that in the Lo Kwong Hill, in the Pun Yu district, there is a very rich coal mine. It was opened, some years ago by a merchant nained Lun Yin Kwong, but en account of sufficeint capital amongst the members of the syndicate formed by Lun Yon Kwong the mice could not be worked, and later it was attached by the autorities.
