- POST OFFICE PROSECUTION,

Trang Fung, a cuplir, with nu permanent address, was arraigned before Mr. F. A. Haze laod, ai the Police, Court, this afternoon, dii three serious charges.

The charges laid against the defendant was made out by the Postmaster General, Mr. L. A. M. Johnson.

The Chairman in reply to the last question said that the armangement was with respect to Swatow only.

Mr. Terry asked how it was possible to improve the company's position when the investment of 5546,000 on mortgages brought in a return of $45,742.37;- while the three steamers of the company, which were valued at $635,000 only brought in a return of $14,000! The only way, continued the speaker, that we can improve our position would be to effect retrenchment.

It was alleged, on the first charge, that de- fendant, on the 25th ult, with imens to in- jure some other person, did open four regis- tered covers that were addressed to one Kwong Man Fung. The second charge was that de fendant unlawfully did steal to one of the letters a bank draft (No. 53,402) fur $102, and the third charge was that he unlawfully oblained the four registered covers from the Postmaster-General by using a false chop

Mr. G. E. Morrell, of Messrs. Dennys andsurance of icaiers Bowley (Crown Solicitor), appeared for the prosecution, the defendant, who, denied the charges, being unrepresented.

Mr. Perry's concluding remarks were that unless retrenchment in the g neral expenses was brought about he did not see how they could improve the shareholders' position.
