BOYCOTT OF FERAK MERCHANTS.

OUTCOME OF THE CHẠI LỌONG GINGER FIRM CASBI

During the week our correspondent at Can- ton has furnished particulars of a case decided against the Chinese bankers at Canton in fa- vour of one of the partners of the well-known Chai Loong firm of preserved ginger manu- facturers. In retaliation for the decision of the Na Hoi magistrate, the Canton bankers' guild have resolved to boycott all firms there connected with the ginger manufacturers. In pursuance of their resolution the circular roughly translated below has been issued.

Notice is hereby given that our Guild made a loan to the firm of Chai Loong, preserved ginger manufacturers. Last year, we called upon one of the partners of the firm, Wong Ki Sam, to repay the loan. He promised to da so le the extent of his share in the partner? ship. He brought with him to our guild one Chu Su Chun, master of the Chu Kwong Cheung firm, Perak merchants, who consented to guarantee Wong's "promissory note to the extent of 170,000. This he has failed to make good, and moreover succeeded in the ente before the Nam, Hoi Magistrate to defer pay. ment of the winey due. It is evident that were his example tu' be followed by every trader, it would be impossible for the Bankers to collect monies which they might have advanced. This is to notify all bankers that any one found having dealings with the following firms shall be

boycotted, viz.: the Kwang Cheung in Sai Kwan, Kwong Kat, Kwong Yuen, Hung Tai in Chan Mek Lan, Chu Kwong tan in Siu Ri Street, all Perak merchants, and Chu Kwong Lan, native tobacco merchant. Bills bought or sold by members of the guild from or to the firms above cunmerated must be made. good, but from the 12th inst, the boycalt against those firms must become effective, This boycott should eperate likewise in respect of Customs duties, which it had been the practice of the bankers to pay on behalf of the merchants, such payments being subse
