So far as the medical profession in this city It concerned the Phamohs who have been accused in Chicago of spreading tuberculosis have obtained a clean, bill of health. Dr. Rafaelle Sorgung, who lectures at the Sobanne In Faris declares that the spread of lung disestes in Europe and this country may be traced to the garms of the malady which were in the mummies wrested from their tombs. Dr. Sarg- Bsc declared that workmen and scientists who | ware in the neighbourhood of mummies and breathed air in which their dust was floating
have been seized;with consumption, and thus wont to wasting deaths.
Dr. Livingston Farrand, a well-known an- thropologist, who is also secretary of the come. milles on the prevention of tuberculosis, raid that he had handled many mummies in the course of his professional career, but had never beard of consumption being communicated from such a source.
"I see no foundation for such an idea,"mid Mr. Willam Park, of the bacteriological labor- atory of the board of health, who has devoted much time to the investigation of germ discutes.
"Tuberculosis is one of the oldest of human Uli, and references can be found in writings for three or four thousand years showing its | existance. The bacilli which causa it live under ordinary conditions only a few days, although ́thers have been cases where the germs had
