18th inst. At the Police Court'this morning before Mr. C. A. D. Melbourne, Sg Ting Fang alias Ng Chung Kai, formerly in the employ of the New York Life Insurance Company, at Canton, was brought up on temand on a charge of em bezzling the sum of $145.70, the property of the Company, in the month of April, last, within the jurisdiction of China.

Ho Ving Chew, trader at Kwei-chow, San tak district, said he, recognised the defendant. Witness applied for an insurance policy on his own life. He applied also for two other policies for his son and young brother, The policy of his brother's life was granted, but witness's policy was refused and the money returned. Witness never received his son's policy. Witness paid $30 as hargitio money, in respect of his son's policy, and the balance- 46 od was subseq ently paid This money was paid through the Kwong Loong firm The defendant asked witness to pay again money. No policy was issued on his son's, file. On the 15 h instant the New York Life Insurance Company returned witness $145.70 which he paid to the Kwon Loong firm for his son's' policy. He, first became aware of the fact that no policy was going to be issued to his san, when his brother's policy urived. A man surnamed Ku came to Kweichow to inquire into the case, and he informed witness that his son's policy was not granted.
