As an outcome of the disturbance reported by wire on Saturday, the Chinese are demanding the removal of Mr. Twyman, the British Asses sor, and three inspectors of police.

[The relations between the Municipal police and the Chinese officials of the Mixed Court do not appear to have been of the best of late, On the 6th inst, the Shanghai Taqini has, the N. C. D. It is also pointed out by the Taotal that since the aboluton by Impatial decree of corporal punishments the presence of these representatives of the Muni cipal police is naturally superfluous, and his Honour also protests against the disposition lately manifested by these policemen to inter fere in purely native cases, peculiarly under the jurisdiction of the Mixed Court Magistrate, --Ed., ?f, K. TO-DAY'S EXCHANGE, Selling

For the past week particulars of sale of eight Crown lots at Kau U Fong were widely ad vertised throughout the Colony. The lots ag gregate '12 935 square feet and were put up at the uniform upset price of $7 per square foot.

It was the general opinion that the Govern

value ment entertained too high an idea of the of land in that particular locality in the present condition of the money and the sluggish. ness of the estate, market. So that to those competent to form an opinion the failure to secure a single bid for any one of the eight lois was not at all-surprising.

At the appointed hour of sale, there was a large gathering of interested individuals-Rank T.T. mostly Chinese-and a few Europeans on the India T.T. site. Mr. L. G. Rees, the Government surveyor, offered sale lot 8 first and successively six

others, lot seven not having been offered at all.

To his request for bids none of the spectators made any response. Opinions being ex- charged that "the price was too high." It should be remembered that, nominally, the price was 17 afoot. Ia reality the price work- ed out at Sto'a foot, since under the Building Ordinance only two-thirds of the superficial area can be utilized for building purposes; the | THE EWO COTTON SPINNING. & | provision of backyards rendering the sacrifice, from the purchaser's point of view, of about à WEAVING CO., LD.

Mr. Chamberlain urged fiscal reform from an Imperial standpoint, aiming at the inclu sion of all the colonies in one, self-sufficient mutually supporting federation.
