SANDOW AND THÈ PARSEE
LADIES...
In the Daily Newt, Sandow gives an amus. ing account of how he instructed the Parsee ladies in bis system. He says:-
•
The tower class of Indian women i have al- ways regarded as being extremely well develop: ed, despite the practice of child-marriage. I consider their fine figures to be due to the cus- tom of carrying pitchers on their beads, his necessitating a natural posse of their body.
When, by the influence of Mr. Bomanjee, the merchant-prince, I was able to extend my clato Parsee ladies, I found that, though durere very, beautiful women, they had marked tendency to embonpoint. They proved, however, enthusiastic and intelligent pupils, especially when they discovered that my trent ment would improve their figures, their health; and their spirits generally.
One class I took was conducted under very peculiar conditions. My pupils were separated from me by a beaded screen, and the apart inent they were in darkened so that I could not see them. Some unlovely waiting women watched them closely.
On the other side of the screen where i stood all was bright, so that my mysterious pupils could easily see what I was doing. 1 faced the screen and commenced demonstrating the first simple exercises of my system. A quiet rustling from the other side of the screen told me that my unseen watchers were imital ing my movements, and so the lesson went on to the end.
When I had finished" I was met by an ex- traordinary request. The lading were very curious to feel the muscles of my arms. approached the beaded screen and raised my hiceps; and through the screen half-a-dozen small hands, stretched out and touched them pervously, Mrs Sandow, who was present on my ulde of the scCORD, WAS A I

That demand is zaridly creating salaries. We have heard only the beginning of such calls. They are sure to increase as is the cause of true education. Such a Training School is one of the impera- live requirements of the situation,
