But out of your crime through the halls of
time shall a grisly spectre stalk, Build on the lives of stricken, of wounded and

Let your structure rise to the boding skies:

But lank to your sure foundation, and lay it

Then grind on your grist of sorrow, And add to your crimson leap, But look to the black to-morrow-
Behold, He is not asleep!

The day previous to the wedding the parties went to scale, and that the husband was a man after his father-in law's heart can be assumed from the fact that he received with her more than $20,000.
An old Lancashire (England) paper gives an - amoting account of a small farmer who agreed
to give his daughter for a marriage portion as many guineas as she could walk miles in a day. The feat came off in the neighbourhood of Manchester, and the sturdy lass tramped more than seventy miles. When, however, the time for settlement arrived it was discover all that the father was not worth as many shillings as he should have paid guiness, whereupon a subscription was opened by the neighbouring. gentry, who admired the girl's pluck, and an amount was collected that compensated her for her exertion.
