Haigon/Philippines, quite unexpectedly mare demand for tonnage has made incll felt during the last few days and consequently rates have stiffened a file. From 25 cents cales went up to.8 cents, and further tonnage could be placed at this. This is however, only for and of this or early next month loading and only for small, steamers of abouth 27/28,000 piculs.
Saigon Japan, another Indo-China steam r was closed, rate not transpired; but it seems if there is no further demand for tonnage in this direction. A steainer was also closed Sai- gon/Niigata, but rate was not disclosed.
Saigon/Java, this remains a dead letter. Java/Hongkong, steamer was closed to load 1, 2, 3, or 4 rorti N. C. Java at sa cents and further tonnage could be placed at about same rate. Tonnage is still wanted for Java/ Japan at about 1/6 per ton. A steamer has been offered, at 12/6 without even raising a counter offer.
There is no demand for tonnage in the direc tion Bangkok/Hongkong.
A little more cargo le in the market bence to Japan and liners are at present booking at 13 to 14 cents-rate, however, is not tempting enough for outsiders.
Coat Freights:-A few steamers have been [27] fixed at F1.15 for Mojifllongkong and further tonnage could be placed at this. "To Singapore a large carrier might be placed at $15, but no sonnage is to be had at this,
