The machine is very simple to operato, the power being furnished by a draft solmil and the sicks fed in mitch the same manner at they are fed in the old-fashioned Filipino mill--
A machine that could be operated by one carabao would grind out 700 gallons a day and would cost $50 gold. A two-horsepower machine would cost $75 gold. ·
The two things that would make it of great value to the Filipino growing sugar in a small way is the thoroughness with which it presses out the juice and its extreme durability. Tho old Filipin mill does not press out so per cent of the juice, and the remainder is lost j the new mill wasies practitelly nothing. If the mill is kept oiled there seems to be no reason why it would not last a farmer a lifetime.

Punch entitled "The Point of View!” it repre- sented a group of children who had been taken to a picture gallery to view a celebrated paint-NOTIC ing showing the early Christians being thrown to the lions; and how they were telling their mother all about it. After listening to her sister's impressions of the sufferings of the Christians and the ferocity of the wild beasts, ́one little girl rather surprised the company by remarking, "Oh yes, mamma; and there was one poor lion in the corner that didn't have a Christian at all."
Everything (even drifting mines) depends upna the point of view; la the Naval Officer whose slip is snugly moored in Weihaiwei bar- [594 bour, or swinging round the buoy off the Bund at Shanghai, the question of mines is likely to appear in a totally different light than it does to the master and nates of the crasting vessels who Mbeen instructed to sell by
