DETAILS OF THE FIGHT.
Mr. M. Noma, Consul for Japan, kindly
grams:-
8 p.m. the enemy changed the course to the northward, apparently for Port Arthur. At 9.30 pan. our fourteenth torpedo-boat flotilla made the first attack, followed by fifth des troyer flotilla, thereupon the enemy disorder ly hastened towards Port Arthur, anchored? outside at 10.30 p.m. Thenceforth till the dawn our flotillas made the attacks for eight times repeatedly, defying the searchlights and firing from the enemy's feet and forts. The Shirataka discharged two torpedoes at a battleship of the Peresvied type which was observed to have been enveloped in flame and sunk. The effects of the fire of our ships were not distinctly visible, but one battleship of the Spoastopol type and two first class cruisers of the Diana type were also seen on the next morning to have lost their freedom of navigation On the 24th instant till 4 p.m. the enemy gradually entered into the harbour, some being towed. Our damage was slight as previously reported."
A SENSATIONAL fire, attended with fatal re- sults, occurred at Huntley's restaurant at Wes- ton-super-Mare, Somerset. Huntley, the pro-. prietor, together with his wife, son, and baby, and two female assistants, perished in the Games. The son succeeded in saving his sister, but perished in a desperate effort to rescue his parents. Structurally, the place was a death- trap.

Before leaving the Colony, however, he paid several visits to the brothers and scholars of St. Joseph's College, and, in May, unveiled the statue of St. Jean Baptiste de la Salle, the founder of the Christian Schools. He there delivered a most eloquent and friendly speech, in which he eulogised that great Patron of youth, and thanked the Brothers for the good work they were doing in Hong-
