· SIGNALS

A NEW CODE.

We have received from the Hongkong Observatory a new code of meteorological signals which comes inte force at Hongkong on New Year's Day. They are the same as those at present in use at Shanghai, and will be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball a Kowloon Point for the information of masters of vessels leaving the part. They do not neces sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The signals are as follows:--

A cone point upwards indicates a typhoon to the North of the Colony,

A cone point upwards and drum below in dicates a typhoon to the North East of the Colony.

A drum indicates a typhoon to the East of the Colony,

A cone point downwards and drum below indicates a typhoon to the South-East of the Colony.
