Border Laird took the fead and kept it to the Grand Stand. The ruder in passing the post for the first time was Border Laird, Manila and Marchal Niel Rose. At the turn Panjandrum went ahead, and Eclipse crept up to the second place. Panjandrum held the lend at the hac of the course and passing the village for the last time, the horses were of a bunch. In the straight, Manila gradually drew ahead, Panjandrum fighting hard for the win. At the finish, half a length separated the first and second, and a length the second and third.
