ADVICES from Australia state that the recent storm in Great Britain is described as one of the worst experienced for years. Every part of the British coast suffered more or less from the effects of the gale. The storm raged with, great fury at Bail, where the wind at times attained a velocity of 72 miles an hour. The concert pavil on at Hastings was completely wrecked, as also were 50 bathing machines on the beach at that popular resort. The wind wrought great havoc amongst the trees in the park at Windsor, and many fue clms in Ken- The hop gardens in Kent also suffered severely. sington Gardens were levelled with the ground. Twenty thousand troops that were encamped on Faversham Common, in the east of Kent, in connect on with, military manœuvres, were, drenched, and their tents blown down about their heads. A large marquee that was used as the mess of the headquarters staff collapsed while the officers were dinning. Many casual ties also occurred on the French, Belgian, and Dutch coasts. The commencement of the southern breakwater of the National Harbour at Dover was destroyed damage being wrought to the estimated value of £40,000. The steel framework of a new gasometer at Southsea was completely wrecked by the gale. Thousands of pounds worth of damage was done.
