My predecessors in the chair have referred to the difficulties experienced in satisfactorily ful filling our decking engagements, owing to the calls upon our No. r Dock, and I have now to

1 inform you this difficulty is in no way lessened, It is only by most careful manipulation that we are able to give our regular constituents even partial satisfaction. As you are aware the No. Dock has been lengthened to 576 feet to accommodate such sized steamers as the Korea and beria for docking, but it is still too short to permit of the propeller shafts of these steamers being withdrawn, and to en. able us to do this work, it is absolutely neces sary that it be further lengthened. It is manifest that if we cannot undertake the work of with drawing their propeller shafts, such steamers will have to dock where it can be accomplished, As briefly noti ed in the reppe, we have now ordered the engines, dynames, electric motors and condensing plant for the electric power extension at Kowloon. The two boilers for this service have been salisfactorily tested at Kowloon, and will abortly be placed in the rower house. The old engine works has been cleared of most of the machines and they have been transferred to the new shops into suitable grouping for the electric drive. The building will be shortly re-roofed an 1 renovated.
