Whether they procure children by actual kidnapping or enticement or by buying them from poor parents unable to support them cannot be known, but in all cases the sale or purchase of children and all cases of kidnapping are in- fractions of Chinese law. General Yang S Yuen heard of the kidnappers at Kau pu and sent the Haifang, or coast protecior, with some

officers and men to Kau-pu to arrest the guilty men, who, however, heard of the intended visit in time to escape. The Haifang sealed up the door of the house occupied by the kidnappers, took away they wife of one and the son of another and also arrested the family chief and the landlord of the house. These four persons were conveyed to Amoy to be examino 1. Orders were left that the kidnappers should be arrested on their return. CHINESE REFUGEES ABROAD.

According to the Sin Wan Pio the Kwang- tung f'rovincial authorities are informed that many of the leading bad characters and pro- minent robbers take refuge in foreign colonies in order to evade arrest by the authorities, in the interior, in consequence they have ing structed their subordinates to keep a record of these escaped bad characters and report them to the higher authorities from time to time, se that they might be traced and captured with assistance of foreign governments During last year over ten notorious robbers were captured in Hongkang after heavy re wards having been offered for their arrest, so now when these refugees knew that longkong was untenable, they emigrate lo other parts.

'BARGAINS IN GLASSES.”

There is no such thing as "bargains" ́in eye glasses. Glasses which are worth "St for this week only" are not worth any more the next week or any other week, in fact they are never worth the money asked for, or better still are too dear at any price. Your eyes need a thorough examination by a reliable, Eye Specialist before you get your glasses, and this examination is worth some moacy. To get the right glasses is worth everything-wearing wrong glasses means killing your eyesight. Your eyes are your life 'and no bargain-counter article.
