This would give to it an advantage.y It is argued, would almost immediately drive the discredited and unsupported Mexican dollar out of circulation in the East, where in all large transactions, the Mexican coin circulates by weight and not by count or the market value of the silver as attested on the face of the coin.
The popularity of silver as the circulating medium throughout the Far East over all other forms of money is demonstrated by the repeated failures that have followed all at- tempts to establish the gold standard in every palt of that quarter of the globe except 'Japan. Great Britain, it is pointed out, finally has abandoned the effort, and is now content to lend her credit to sustain the face value of the Bombay English dollar. This, in effect, is what the United States will have to do when the American Philippine dollar is issued by authority of Congress, That is, the fult credit of this government will be behind that dollar. also behind all the subsidiary coins based on it.

DAFFODILS.
SOMETIMES IT IS DAFFODILS BUY, AND STILL FOX MEMORY.
Down in the Westthere is a wide vale shut in by hills that are the source of many pleasant teams. One of these runs over a bed of peb- bles between high banks, through fields in which there are always lambs at Christmas time. Kingfishers nest in these banks, and in saily March the first of the daffodils are found there. Then with the lengthening of the days they fill the fields, leaving only barren circular patches round and under the great elms that stand in them. There is one grey stone bridge under a horse-chestnut, and it is carved with the initials of lovers dead and gone. Here was a proper trysting-place, and once there was a girl who used to come to it, with the merriest dark eyes and a complexion like privet- blossom. Daffodils remind me of her, but they likewise distress me a little, for I cannot recall her name. I remember only long walks through the fields, with occasional passages. through tiny hamlets: The end of the journey was usually outside the high, garden wall of a

THE COLONIAL CAMP. EXPECTED SELECTION OF ALEXANDRA, PALACE, INTERESTING ARRANGEMENTS.
(Daily Mail, 26th March.). Reports have for some days been current that the famous Alexandra, Palace, perched on Muswell Hill, and commanding what is pro bably the finest view of London that can be obtained, might become the camp selected for the Colonial troops, 4.500 in number, who are to visit London next May and stay for four trecks.
The Alexandra Palace authorities inform us that arrangements are not quile complete, but it scaros that the matter can be taken as practi" cally settled.
Last night Mr. Littler, K.C., the chairman of the Alexandra Palace trustees, stated that ne- gotiations had been going on between the War Office and the Colonial Office authorities, acting jointly, and the trustees with a view to the utiliantion of the place for the purpose indicated. No decision bad yet been arrived at, and the Board had to finally consider, the matter. An Engineer officer had, however, visited the palace in connection with it
