This appointment Mr. "Goodman has held for period of twelve years, though he was called upon to act as Colonial Secretary for nearly year after Sir Francis Fleming lelt until the arrival of Sir George O'Brien. He has also, on three occasions acted as Chief Justice of Hongkong, the last time being for ten months during the absence na leave of Sir John Carrington, from April 1889 to February 1900. Mr. Goodman has therefore the advantage of having experience of the duties of the post to which he is now promoted as well as an intimate acquaintance with the laws of this Colony which he has been called upon to draft out and carry through the Legislative Council
The title of King's Counsel was conferred upon Mr. Goodman by the present Lord Chancellor two or three years ago.

On Saturday night, says the Daily Press, about sixty pelty officers belonging to H.M.S. A noticeable feature of the evening was the entire absence of any reference to South Africa, the occasion of the gathering being only inferred from the quaint menu placed be- fore each person on the one long flower- festooned table, which admitted full comrade- ship to be harinoniously enjoyed.
Referee Mr.-Cook, H.M.S. Terrible, The Glory, kicked off but by some good passing the Club forwards carried the ball into the Glory territory.
