In the course of an interview, Mr. Rhodes is said to have declared himself opposed to Lord Charles Beresford's China policy, and to bave advocated the division of Chine into spheres of influence. Mr. Rhodes repudiated the sug. gestion that he was in favour of using force towards the Transvaal, and said, "I once made istake. That was enough for me. I hold quite aloof from the Transvaal crisis.
