His lordship came to the conclusion that the whole cause of the collision was due to bad navigation on the part of the Normandie, which vessel was alone in fault, and that she was Bable for all the damages caused by the collision and the costs. The owners of the Normandie appealed to the Privy Council on the ground that the Judge was wrong in his interpretation of Articles 18, 23, and 14 of the Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, which the Patla had neglected the morning of April 314, 1846, in fine and clear to abay. The collision happened about 5.40 on weather, off Pootung Polat, where the river is divided by a row of buoys into two channels. The public of Hongkong are certainly to be congratulated on the manner in which they carried out the celebration of Her Majesty's Tablice. All classes and all nationalifics vied with each other in doing honour to the most beneficent and most roble Monarch the world, has known, and, had it not been for somewhat unfavourable weather conditions the display la Hongkong would have been the Beast seen here. As we have before said there was a crowding of the programme that, caused a good deal of feconvenience, and the yesterday postponement of the Gymkhana came not as a very great dlrappointment to do" the many people who prefered to streets and visit the flower show and the exbibliion of Chinese „cuitos at the City Hall, All the fanctions were largely attended and many thousands of visitors, principally Chlness, from Canton, Amey, Shanghai, Macas and other

· ports, came to Hengkong and helped give to the place an unusually animated appearance. Now that the Jublice is a thing of the past, it is only fair that a word of praise should be given to the General Committee. Thelswoikkas, indeed, been arduous but the sell sacrifice and singleness of purpose shown by all the members had a result that was in every way satisfactory, and ths. hearty and enthusiastic co-operation of the public must bare made their work more a pinasure than a duly,
