THE "STRATHNEVIS."
Considerable anxiety has bean felt during the last few days resp‘eting the steamer Straiknevis which left Vancouver on the 13th ulto, bound, for this port via Yokohama, and has not since been beard of, though her schedule time at the fatter part was the 4th or gth lost. She had over 150 steerage passengers-Asiatics-but so far as is known to foreigners on board beyond the officers. She had over 2,000 tons of cargo for the Orient, consisting largely of flour, tlaned meals, etc. She is a new vessel, and very strongly built, so her agents here, Messrs. Dodwell Carlil and Co., have no fear for her safety, the opinion being that her machinery his broken down and that she is making the best of her way under, sail. She has coal efficient to last forty days, so no fear is felton that account. Allthe Pacificliners leaving either side during the last fortnight have received fastructions to keep a good-look-out for the over due vessel, and we may consequently expect, very shortly, to hear of her being reported,

We hear Caplain Allen, of the Japanese Government service, has returned to this country probably with the view of taking out the nee cable steamer now building for the Japanese Government. Captain Allen has already done a good deal of cable work for the Japanese, and

According to a St. Petersburg telegram to the Bello National Zaftung, an expedition fitted out by the Geographical Society of that capital, will start on Nov. 1st for China, "in order to carry out certain economic and ethnographical Investigations" in that country.
