There is little or no more tributa sice to caITY from the southern provinces, and the two Government steamers Hairing and Stenal are lying idle in the inner harbour, blocking up the passage for other vessels there, which have real business to transact. And still the corrupt mandarins keep two Japanese steamers under charter, to help the two others named, to do next to nothing. The Soul mandarini use the two Japanese steamers as a milch cow, and the Koreas Government, pays for the squeeze through the nose. I think some steps should be taken to keep the inner barbozir there is plenty of room in-the-suter-barbour-fer them, and as far as that white elephant the Hadrieng is concerned, the best thing to do with her would be to take the machinery out and sell her for old metal, trip her copper off, and- break up the hulk for firewood-Shanghat afercury Cor.

That the newly appointed Viceroy of this province is an exceptionally wise and fedicious Rovernor is shown, as in other ways, by bit action in this Tek-hos difficulty. Insicad of subduing these prople by force of arms, 22 Wat the case with his predecessor, he has come missioned the General to parley with them, to sak them particulare of their grievances and ascertain what will put it right. The General bold though he is, could not approach them in person, knowing their sentiments towards blu j long conference ended in the deputy proposing an Investigation of last sutuma's troubles, to be held in Fonchow The Tek-bua peoble objected to this, and sold that they would only he satisfed if the investigation took place In Tek-bus. The deputy, on behalf of the General, assured them that their wishes would be represented to the Viceroy and begged them to return to their homes, with the assurance that their grievances would be risbted. With this news there appears to be every prospect of the trouble coming to an end. It is said that the Tek-hur people, like those of the province generally, are peace-loving, and very eneily ruled; but that they are not without splet, and are apt to become very troublesome If they are treated with injustice.-Echo.
