The first part of the voyage had calms and light southerly and south-easterly winds; afterwards wind veering to south-west with overcast sky and frg nearly to Tung-ying; thence moderate south-west on soon to Breaker Point; from there to port had fresh north-east and south-west winds alternately, with squally weather and a high swell, graually increasing, setting in from south-south-east)

that she left Sydney on the 23rd ultimo st 5 p.m. ;. called at Keppel Bay on the 26th, Townsville on the 28th, and Cooktown on the 29'b, and arrived at Thursday Island at 10 30 a.m. on the 3 st. Penguin, engaged in surveying north- west coast of Australia. At 5 p.m.on the 6th, H.M.S. Goldfinch arrived from England on her way to join the Australian Squadron, and on the afternoon ofthe yth, after finishing with Panguín, the Callerthun proceeded alongside and posted
