The charge against Viscount Mandeville, the eldest son of the Duke of Manchester, of obtaining the sum of £1,850 under false pretences, lapsed in the Police Court by reason of the refusal of the prosecutor to give evidence. Latest advices from Abyssinia tend to discredit the report that Ras Alouls, the famous Abyssinian General, was killed by the Dervishes in the recent series engagements, in one of which King John lost his life. There is a rumpur afloat that Ras Aloula is bazily engaged in assembling an army of Abyssinians with the object of retaking Keren, of which town the Italians fately possessed themselves. The credibility of the report, how- ever, is not vouched for by the authorities.
