Commercial.

THIS DAY,

Noon. This has been rather a quiet morning on the Stock Exchange, few transactions of any importance having taken place. Bank scrip is still in great demand, and at the increased rate of 153 per cent, premium, a fair number of cash sales has been booked. On time a few speculative investments have been made at 156 for December 31st, and on these terms further business might be done, were holders anxious to close. No ready money business in Luzons has been reported, but for the end of next March scrip has nominally changed hands at 116 per share. For cash, shares are on offer at 14. Docks continue weak, but as there are no inquiries made with a view to pur- chase, it is difficult to say accurately the figure at which holders would part with their serip. We therefore leave our quota- tion unaltered. Offers to sell Steamboats at 32 per cent, premuim have not been

responded to. Nothing else, worthy of speshington, British steamer, for Swatow, &c. cial mention, has come under our notice.

4 o'clock p.ni. Banks steadily continue their upward march, and it looks almost a certainty that the long agoprophecy that the stock would! see 100 per cent. premium before the end of the year, will soon be realised. Since we last wrote a number of sales ha se taken place at 155 for the end of the present month, and there are actually cash buyers

at the rate.

Business has also been put through at 157 for Decumber, 31st. There have been some inquiries after Hong. kong Fires at the increased rate of 105

business per share, but no had resulted when our report left. Ducks are now offered at 54. for cash, and a few time transactions have

·been negotiated at 55 for January 31st. The Indo-China Steam Navigation Com- pany's stock has been made the medium of a few investments at par. Luzons are rather weaker again, anil we shall not be at all surprised, from what we hear, if they again take a downward turn.
