SITUATION IN MEDITERRANEAN IS SERIOUS BUT NOT GRAVE: NO CAUSE FOR GLOOM OVER THE POSITION AT TOBRUK
WHILE THE GENERAL SITUATION IN THE MEDITERRANEAN IS REGARDED AS SERIOUS, IT IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE GRAVE, Reuter's Military correspon- dent was told in authoritative military quarters in London.
GERMAN AND ITALIAN PROPAGANDA, it was pointed out, had been indulging In extravagancies. Both propaganda machines had talked of the withdrawal of the British and Imperial forces from Greece, but had made no mention of the announce- - ment from Athens that fresh troops were being sent up to reinforce those already in position.
AUTHORITATIVE MILITARY QUARTERS IN LONDON SEE NO CAUSE FOR GLOOM OVER THE POSITION AT TOBRUK and it is emphasised that British forces there could fight their way out or be evacuated by sea if this were necessary.
