Modern medicine, until a few years ago confined to the big cities and, coastal towns, bas as a result of the war become fairly well es- tablished throughout the interior provinces of China and an em- phasis on preventive' medicine has in the past summer kept the in- terior almost free of disease of epidémie proportions, stated Dr. F. C. Yen, founder of the National Medical College and Chungshan Me- morial Hospital and a personality of eminence in medical circles In China, when he addressed the Bongkong Rotary Club tiffin meeting yesterday.

Socialised or State medicine, a subject of much intense study and discussion in Europe and America in recent years, is as near achievement In China as could be possible in a country where the medical register holds but some 10,000 names and there are barely 8,000 graduate nurses.
