SELECTION BOARD

The selection board was much easier than I expected. I just had to sit at a table with two R.AF. officers who asked me general knowledge and a few mathema- tical questions. I had no difficulty in answering them. I start off with 2 a day, but as soon as I can start flying," it goes up con- siderably.

Incidentally, if at the end DI the war I wish to go back to the Bank, I shall have on difficulty Whenever any officer looked at my papers and saw that Shanghai was [my birthplace, he invariably said | that things were pretty hot out there. To une I replied that the people in Shanghai thought that things were hotter over here. He looked at me in considerable sur- prise and said "Is that so?" So. you see there are no grounds for worry or alarm.
