After the holidays the market opened 1/4 of a cent higher for all deliveries as compared with Saturday's closing quotations..
The market ruled steady throughout the day, thus reflecting con- ditions prevalling in New York.
Demand for "actuals" by consuming countries was fair, whilst dealers and speculators displayed good buying interest in futures.
Later in the session prices registered an advance of 1/8 cent for all deliveries due to persistent general buying. the market closing. with a firm undertone.
It would appear that the sentiment was caused by overnight.. cable reports on an impending settlement of the Motorcar-strike in Detroit, on continued business-expansion in USA. as evidenced by increased automobile sales and a substantial rise in Steel-mill capa-" city for last week, and on a more hopeful outlook of the interna- tional political situation.
