IMPROVED HUSBANDRY

COMES TO SZECHUEN

Chengt (Szechwan) May 14-The war and the demand for more butter, milk and beef have made the farmers of Szechwan grateful to Mr. Frank Dickinson, Professor of Agriculture at the West China Union University of Chengta, for the services ho has rendered to them in the past. Mr. Dickinson's work for cattle improvement began in 1924 when the first Holstein ball of pure Netherlands origin was brought thither from Kaifeng in Henan Province. Offspring of this ball are now scattered throughout the West and Southwest of China.

The cattle could not be removed elsewhere-and were aboard the train throughout the raid. Luckily the bombs missed them. They reached Hankow in eight days, and then crossed the Yangtze River and took another train for Changsha, capital of Hunan Province. After two days travel they arrived in the Hunan city and stayed there for ten months.

From Changsha, the herd was transported by sailing boat and tugboat to Ichang, a trip of five D. M. BIGGAR,

days. The stopover at Ichang Manager. lasted 24 days; after which their journey was resumed aboard the steamer Wanhsten which reached the wartime capital in three days. In Chungking they stayed for three months, and then made the two and a half day truck trip to Chengtu.
