ENGINEER PROMOTION ZONE The Admiralty anncunce that the Zone of promotion of engineer officers to engineer captain and captain. (E) on June 30, 1939. and thereafter has been amended to eight to 12 years seniority as engineer commander and commander (E). Since June, 1937,

the

The raising of the upper limit affects only two officers, one engineer commander and one commander (E), with seniority of December 31, 1928, would otherwise have been beyond the zone in June next; but there are six commanders (E) of June 30, 1917, seniority who, unless promoted in June, would have had no further chance of selection under the old 2018. The numbers with between eight, and 12 years, seniority are 19 engineer commanders and 41 commanders (E).

LAUNCH OF THE FIJI H.M.S., Fiji will be launched from Clydebank shipyard of Joha Brown and Co. Limited, on May 31. This will be the third of the seven cruisers in the 1837 programme to go afloat, since the Bonaventure is to be launched at Greenock on June and the "Hermione, at Govan Muy 18. These two shilps belong to the Dido class, of 5.450 tons, but the Fiji is the first of a new type of 8.000-ton cruisers, with sin, guns.
