SZECHWAN NOW SALT PRODUCING CENTRE
Company Plans Establishing New Bricks Works
CHUNGKING," Jan,`26 (Central)-With the Japanese seizure of the salt districts in Elopel and In the Hwal River region,.. Szechwan has become the principal salt-producing province in China. There are 26 salt producing centres in the province, the most important one being located at Tzelluching, a small town midway between Chungking and Chengtu.
The salt felds at Tzeliuching date back to the Taiping Re- bellion during the 19th century. At first the necessary labour was supplied mainly by water buffaloes, but modern machines have now been installed at 87, pits, and on top of the Liangkao and Tafenpu mountains are huge windmills, working day and night.
