Steadier conditions prevalled throughout the day in sympathy with advices received from London and New York. Whilst trade and consumers' demand was rather fair, speculative activity was restricted, principally due to uncertainties still surrounding the poli- facts it would appear tical" European situation. In view of these that active speculative activity will be necessary to ensure higher price-levels, although reports on steady buying by manufacturers are reassuring.

Closing tone was quietly steady.

Trading on the Cotton Exchange to-day was fairly active, bat price movements were confined within a narrow range. The market was higher on demand by "spot" houses, whlist the Trade also dis- played some interest. The undertone, at the close, was steady...

NEW YORK RUBBER

The market opened fairly steady, but prices soon drifted down- wards. There was some small factory buying, but this was offset by selling by dealers and foreign interests. The. European political situation, coupled with the uncertainty regarding the Sterling cross-rate. remains one of the dominating factors.

CHICAGO WHEAT

Prices were slightly higher, after a quiet opening, on improved Liverpool cables. There was some demand from foreign interesta and export inquiry was good. Prices, however, closed slightly under their best.
