·SOLUTION ON MONDAY

on it,

Mr. De Valera said that his po- Hey had cleared away almost al the obstacles from the path that had made it difficult to move to- wards the ending of partition. The ground was properly set for getting the whole of the Irish people throughout the world to work for the ending of partition.

FORCE NOT CONTEMPLATED The Irish people held Britain responsible for creating the Bor- der, and for continuing it, because they knew perfectly well that the Border could not continue if the support which was being given in various ways was withheld.

"We do not contemplate the use of force," declared Mr. De Valera.

If there were a straightforward. definite way of ending partition there would have been no parti- tion. It was one of the difficult |political facts of the present time

that they had to deal with.

He believed that good relations between Ireland and England would be to, the benefit of both countries, and, as far as he could work towards bringing about these

relations, he would do so. That was not possible as long as parti- tion remained.

Mr. De Valera sald that he was against the resolution. which stated that it was now opportunity to declare Eire a free and indepen- dent republic; but he could see no reason why they should not try to do everything in their power to end partition.

The first resolution was with- drawn, and the second one, calf- ing on the Government to work for the end of partition, was pass- ed.
