a result of his death, they were without means of subsistence,

The letter went on to inquire of the Chairman if it were possible to arrange for a charity game, the funds to be appropriated for the benefit of the deceased's mother and sister.

The Chalaman (Mr. W. Pryde) remarked after reading the letter. that it was up to the Council to de all it could to help deceased's dependents. After some discussion the Chairman said that it should be left to the Management Com-

Miss Hoahing beat by 6-2. 6–3, Miss, P. N. Marison, a head taller than herself, who plays in the Surrey County side and is a worthy opponent for "most players.

Astute adversaries of Miss Hoah ing have discovered that the best; way to defeat her is to make ber short limbs stretch by means of a sharply angled ball. Persistence in such tactics may give her more! running and hitting then she is able to manage.

Miss Morison was rather too! stereotyped in her full-length drives to keep Miss Boshing on the run And at the straight up and down stuff the Chinese girl was more than her match The power of some of her backhand drives was incredible for so small'

SHELAEFF'S FIRST FIGHT

Until further detally are available through the mails about the first 'fight in San Francisco of "Andre Shelaed, whom Shanchal has taken under its wing as welterweight champion of the Orient, there must be considerable mystification aver the result.

On the reports ap far received the draw verdict is difficult to explain. In the fifth-round Shelaeff appears to have accidentally butted his opponent and caused, a deep gash on his forehead. This apparently inspired the referee to stop the fight and to award a dw, even though the American boxer was ahead on points, ⠀⠀
