CHINESE TIGHTEN GRIP AT LINFEN, KUWO
Hankow, July 10.
With the aid of reinforcements the Chinese are vigorously coun- ter-attacking the Japanese between Hakow and Slangkow on the south bank of the Yangtze River, reported General Chen Cheng, De- fence Commander of the Wahan Area and concurrently Chairman of the Hapeh Provincial Government, when reviewing the war situation at a press conference-yesterday. -
General Chen revealed that bloody street fighting preceded the fall of Hakow on July 5. A Japanese column, he said, had reached the villages lying about seven miles northeast of Hukow early in the day. At noon other Japanese troops stole a landing at Hakow. They launched a concerted attack on the small town and broke into it in the afternoon..

CZECH GOVERNMENT MAY DECLINE TO ADMIT HENLEIN'S DEMANDS
Prague. 'July 10.
The probability that the Czechoslovak Government will decline to admit the eight demands formulated by Herr Konrad Henlein in his Carlsbad programme and fulfilment of which would be equivalent to granting complete autonomy to the Sudeten German area is stressed today by the Ceske Slovo in an article which is attracting all the more attention in political circles since the paper in question Is the organ of the Czech National Socialist Party..
It will be recalled that this Party, of which President Benes was formerly the leader, is one of the most important groups forming the Government coalition.
