Lieut. Ross pleaded guilty to the summonses and said that on the Arst occasion when he brightened "nis Rights was when a cyclist was in his way and he needed the lights to avoid any mishap. He had switched on his lights subsequently for similar reasons. He odded thất he knew the regulations.
"I have been instructed to ask your Worship to take a serious view of this case," said Inspector Brittain, "Had · thê- driver been a Chinese there could have been such an excuse as language misunderstanding, but in this case there was none.”

After proceeding down the coast for about half an hour, the Clipper cut across inland. The most stick- ing thing about that part of the Luzon coast, to my mind, was the complete absence of any kind of nahing craft or sailing ships, in such marked contrast to the China- const which iterally teems with them.
It is only when one has taken a flight over the Philippines that orie is able to realise how mountainous those land are, Within a few minutes. of leaving the coast we were flying above towering peaks, rising five and 6,000 feet into the air.
