Le Monnier's new hats are made of stin satin and velvet ribbons,

Schiaparelli has shown a mid- season collection, and the latest coats
are long and loose with straight backs. The dresses and blouses have draped sleeves and bodices while the waist-line re- mains slender. Sports clothes are gay in colour; bright green, yellow and brown, red and blue are col ours which go together. Big but- tons of clear glass with nowers in their depths Tasten Jackets and coats, and brightly painted round buttons, like Christmas tree de-. corations, give a gay appearance to dark "ensembles.”

coats have coloured linings; thus a reddish-brown coat is lined with dark green, and bright, striped "linings are correct for sports coats. Unusual hats go with all these models--draped turbans which tie round the throat like 'motorists' helmets, satin berets, and, for the evening, diadems of crosse fasten- ing under the chin with velvet rib-

Evening dresses are bright in colour and several have fullness drawn into the backs of the skirts; others are straight and moulded, with skirts of instep length, while a third line is indicated by a satin dress with a long, pointed train draped across the front of the skirt and caught up at the back" of the waist. good evening colours. Schiaparelli favours off-the-shoulder necklines and shoulder straps of unequal width which may be embroidered or trimmed with original jewels. Gold and many-coloured metal threads are used to work designs upon evening jackets, extra short boleros, and three-quarter length fanecloth wraps. A moleskin cape is dyed purple to match a plain velvet dress with which go long gloves reaching above the elbows and finished with bands of pink ribbon.

Black and white or black and grey checked matèrials are correct for town "ensembles," and bright blouses. go with them. Printed velvets and tanetas are used for afternoon fracks with short, full skirts and romantic neck-lines. A black taffeta dress may be trimmed with bows of green and orange ribbon, and the black taffeta of another model is woven with small coloured squares in velvet pille, Black velvet and lamé or flowered brocade are allled in evening dresses with contrasting ing bodices and skirts.
