Owing to the dangerous nature of the bend in the motor road near Tsun Wan Village as complained of by the Kowloon Residents' Asso- clation. It is desirable to carry out the work this year of widening that part of Castle Peak Road from the Shing Mun approach road to Tsun Wan Village at an estimated cost of $3,800, and a supplementary vote

Accused Gets Five Years

Found guilty of having parti- cipated in highway robbery which took place in the early hours of August 1, at the junction. of Des Voeux Road Central and Cleverly Street where an Aberdeen fish dealer (Lau Sing) threatened with a revolver and robbed of $600, a gold watch chain with three American gold coins. and jade and gold appendage. Law Yan, allas Law Yan. Kwal, aged 39, unemployed, was senten- ced to five years' hard labour by the Pulsne Judge, Mr. Justice Lindsell, at the Criminal Sessions yesterday.

The expenditure required under this Sub-head was underestimated when the Estimates were prepared In 1936. Moreover the recent num- erous larcentes of water meter covers has caused unforeseen heavy expenditure. A sum of $30,000 is requested to cover requirements for the remainder of the year. It is essential that meters be kept in proper repair, if loss of revenue is to be avoided.

The typhoon of August 17, 1936, caused severe damage to the pub- ic road and protective mound situated immediately to the North- west of the Standard Oil Company's property at Lalchikok on N.KIL

No. 190 and N.K.M.L. No. 2, and it is. necessary to carry out repairs at an estimated cost of $80,000. A supplementary vote. for this amount is accordingly requested.

Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force: Special Expenditure: Pur- chase of a new Motor Boat--$5,000. The present motor boat is twenty-one years old and has reached the end of its economic life, both engine and hull being in a very bad state.

As part of the general scheme connected with the opening of the Queen Mary Hospital, it is proposed to retain "C" Block of the former Government Civil Hospital as an out-patients' department. Certain alterations will be necessary in volving an expenditure of $9,900 and a vote for this sum ls re- quested.
