Strengthen

your body against Feverish Diseases

The chance of catching malaria and other faver- ish diseases is far greater, if the power of resist ance is lowered. Lack of minerals in the body usually causes this lowering. Tiredness, heart troubles, irritability and dizziness are signs that your power of resistance is below par. Prevent serious trouble by taking Kalzana tablets regularly, Kalzana replenishes the mineral content of the body and blood cells in a perfectly natural way, strengthens the whole system, and so prevents serious infectious diseases, such as malaria, akin rashes, etc.

Walter Hagen, the captain of the American Ryder Gold Cup team. recently replied to the statements of the US, players criticising the

Marco Polo bridge was destroyed by Japanese artillery, and a subse- quent telegram informed the world that that bridge was repaired by the Chinese.

It is interesting to note that Marco Polo bridge is one of the best-known structures in North, China, and was the scene of many an historical battle in the past. The bridge is situated 20 miles south-west of Peiping, and it is once again witnessing a warfare. this time not between recalcitrant Chinese war-lords, but between two great nations of the East.

The bridge took five years to build (1189 to 1184), and it is recorded that thousands of work- men were employed in its construc- tion. There is an interesting legend attached to it.

"When the bridge was complet. ed." runs the legend. "a monk whose name, in English equivalent. La Old Man of Ten Thousand Pines. appeared and said that as it spanned the river Sang Ch'len Ho, which sounds like 'Borrow's Sword? in Chinese, it was necessary to set up a charm to control the waters "So the monk placed a large boulder beneath the central pillar of the bridge and carved thereon a Precious Sword on which Was Inscribed the words meaning to exterminate the Dragon""

According to Chinese legends. the dragon signifies the controller of the elements which produce rain. It will be seen that the monk's so-called "charm" was to counteract floods.

"Some of the boys take their golf very seriously," Hagen ‘said, "Probably they found the course and the general atmosphere at Southport and Carnoustie new and strange, and things that would not bather them ordinarily prob- ably magnified themselves there.

U.S. WIGHTMAN CUP TEAM

New York, Aug. 11. The United States Wightman Cup team to meet Britain al Forest Hills on August 20 and 21 was chosen to-day.

It is led by Miss Alice Marble, the American champion, and her colleagues are Miss Helen Jacobs, Mr. Sarah Fabyan; Miss Carolin Babcock, Mrs. John Van Ryn and Miss Dorothy Bundy.

With the exception of Miss Bundy, who figüres in as intern- fional tennis match for the first time in her career, the team is of former Wightman "The charm, however, did not composed work." continues the legend. "for Cuppers.- in 1698, the bridge was destroyed Pruter. by a flood. It was rebuilt by Kiong' Hai in the same year, but the name of the river, which 'flows under the bridge, was changed. In July 1890. another serious flood occurred. Several of the arches were washed away, and have never been replaced." "

Marco Polo bridge is a relic of the past. In an account of the bridge at the time It was repaired under the order of the Ming Em- peror. Chis Ching. It is specially stated that "there *TE 30 many stope Hons that it is Impossible to count them, while tradition has it that several people have gone out of their minds in attempting to do so."

One of the main items that lure tourists into North China; Marco Polo bridge, owing to the present crisis, will perhaps, not "live" to see another war.

Henry Cotton said "I think the statements are rather undignited. The Americans never complained about their treatment at South- part to me, and I did not see any trace of bad sportsmanship among the crowd.

"Again, at Walton Heath during my match with Denny Shute the crowds were quite fair to both of us, and I do not think he is just- hed in saying that the spectators were 'resentful' of his good shots."

HIS ENCORE TO HOLE-IN-ONE

The most astounded golfer in Britain recently was Mr. R. D. Hunter, of the Droitwich Club, who was playing on holiday over the Manchrie course in Islay, writes a Home correspondent...

In a morning round with a friend he had the thirteenth hole- the Punchbowl-in one. The hole is 233 yards, and the player, taking advantage, of a following wind, used a No. 2 irça.

Then he went out again in the afternoon and did the same thing again!
