Ex-Trumpeter E Lufton, who was Lord Roberts" trumpeter on the Kandahar march. died at Windsor at the age of 75.
He joined the Dragoon guards when he was 14, and within a year was under fire in India. During the Kandahar March he sounded the. advance when the troops.com. pleted the 313-mile trek, lasting -22 "days.
In 1888 he was transferred to the 2nd Life Guards, and served with that regiment in the Boer and Great Wars. When he re tired from the Army in 1920 he had completed 44 years' con- tinuous service.
