It is open to question whether any event in the history of nying has done so much to establish it. and inspire confidence in its fu- ture, as the nights each way be- tween Newfoundland and Ireland. They have put the whole propost- tion op a sound footing.

Good conditions favoured last week's fights, but the 1,500 miles of unbroken cloud "without a hole- in it" is a gentle reminder that the Atlantic is always ready to hit back at any who underestimate its capacity for mischief.
Those whose task it is to bulld up from the foundations now be- ing laid are not under any easy illusions. Before the regular ser- vice becomes possible much work remains to be done. More flights each way by thè American and the British flying boats are to be made, other routes are to be tried, other types of aircraft tested.
